Dimmy — Privacy Policy

Dimmy is a screen-dimming utility app developed by Team Dimmy. This policy explains what information the app and its services collect, why, and the choices you have.

Effective date: July 12, 2026 App: Dimmy (package com.vbm.dimmy) Developer: Team Dimmy Contact: team.dimmy@gmail.com

1. Overview

Dimmy lets you dim your screen beyond your device's normal hardware minimum, using a semi-transparent overlay drawn on top of other apps. It offers a free tier supported by advertising, and an optional premium tier (one-time purchase or monthly subscription) that unlocks additional overlay modes, custom colors, and saved profiles, and removes ads.

This policy applies to the Dimmy Android application and covers the data practices of the app itself as well as the third-party services (advertising and payment processing) it relies on.

2. Data we collect

Dimmy is designed to do its core job — dimming your screen — without requiring an account, without collecting personal identifiers, and without sending your usage patterns to us directly. The table below summarizes what is collected and by whom.

CategoryExamplesCollected byPurpose
App settings & preferences Selected overlay mode, opacity level, schedule times, custom color, saved profile names/colors, bubble on/off Dimmy (stored locally on your device only) Remember your preferences between sessions
Advertising identifiers Android Advertising ID, IP address, device/network info Google AdMob Serve and measure ads; fraud prevention
Purchase information Purchase token, subscription status, transaction history Google Play Billing Verify premium entitlement, process payments
Crash & diagnostic data Device model, OS version, crash stack traces Google Play services (standard Android diagnostics) Identify and fix bugs

What we don't collect: Dimmy does not require sign-in, does not access your contacts, messages, camera, microphone, location, or files, and does not read the content of other apps running underneath the dimming overlay.

3. Permissions the app requests

PermissionWhy Dimmy needs it
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (display over other apps) Required to draw the dimming layer on top of your screen while you use other apps. This permission lets Dimmy draw a visual overlay only — it does not let Dimmy see, read, or interact with what's underneath.
Foreground service Keeps the dimming overlay active and stable while your device is in use, and shows a persistent notification (required by Android) so you always know Dimmy is running.
Notifications Shows the ongoing "Dimmy is active" control notification, and any local reminders related to scheduled dimming.
Run at startup / battery optimization exemption (optional) If granted, lets scheduled dimming and the floating bubble keep working reliably after a device restart or when the system tries to aggressively conserve battery. You can decline this and use Dimmy normally.

4. Third-party services

Dimmy uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

5. Advertising

Free-tier users may see banner ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads shown when opening the app, and an optional rewarded ad that grants a temporary trial of premium features. All ads are served through Google AdMob and shown only within the Dimmy app itself — Dimmy never displays an ad over another app while you're using it.

AdMob may use your advertising ID to personalize ads and measure their performance. You can opt out of personalized advertising and reset your advertising ID at any time from your device's Settings → Privacy → Ads (path varies by Android version and manufacturer).

Purchasing the premium tier removes banner and interstitial ads.

6. Purchases & subscriptions

Premium access is offered as either a one-time lifetime purchase or an auto-renewing monthly subscription, both processed by Google Play Billing. We receive a purchase confirmation and entitlement status from Google Play to unlock premium features on your device — we do not receive or store your payment card number or billing address.

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from the Google Play Store app under Menu → Subscriptions.

7. How data is stored

Your app settings, saved profiles, and preferences are stored locally on your device only, using Android's standard local storage (SharedPreferences and a local Room database). This data is not transmitted to us and is removed automatically if you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage from Android Settings.

Data collected by third-party services (AdMob, Play Billing) is stored and processed by Google according to its own retention practices, described in the Google Privacy Policy linked above.

8. How data is shared

We do not sell your data. We do not share data with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes. Data is shared only as follows:

9. Data retention & deletion

Local app data (settings, profiles, preferences) persists on your device until you uninstall Dimmy or clear its data manually. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data immediately.

To request deletion of any data held by third-party services on our behalf (for example, purchase history associated with your Google account), please contact us using the details in Section 15, or manage this directly through your Google Account settings.

10. Security

We rely on Android's standard app sandboxing and the security practices of Google Play services, AdMob, and Play Billing to protect data associated with your use of Dimmy. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

Dimmy is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

12. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, and to object to certain processing (including personalized advertising). Since Dimmy stores app data locally, most of these choices are already directly in your control:

13. International users

Dimmy is available to users globally. If you access the app from outside the country in which our service providers (including Google) operate their servers, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a different country, which may have different data protection laws. Google's own compliance certifications (including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) cover such transfers for the third-party services listed above.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, our practices, or legal requirements. We will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of Dimmy after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
